Balaskas Hotel

This is a great little family-run hotel, two minutes walk from a great beach in Diafani, a hidden gem on the island of Karpathos. Mike, the proprietor, is a super nice guy (fluent English) and really goes the extra mile to really make his guests feel welcome - the hotel is immaculately clean (white marble) and everything is in perfect working order. There are great restaurants (Αnamoessa is the best, and great value too). There are several boats (Mr. Balaskas runs one) and they do excursions to local beaches - these are virtually empty! It takes a little longer to get to Diafani than to the hot tourist spots but you will find its worth it - mostly Greeks on holiday (and a few Europeans) so really relaxed and 100% authentic - we will definitely be back!

The best stay ever! Everything was perfect and I almost cry when going away. Diafani is magical, Michalis, our host, was the kindest and warmest person you can meet. His father, Vasilis, organizes trips to Saria island and the beaches. Since we only had one day, we did not have the chance to go with him, but he made a miracle for us and arranged to find a spot for the two of us on another beatiful tour to Saria. At night, we chatted together at the village cafè and have a raki together. The world is big and I want to visit it all, but one day I Will be back at Balaskas, in Diafani

The staff member we met was very friendly, the room was basic but very clean and the verandah had a nice view to the mountains. The beds were extremely comfortable, the fridge was very handy and there was a water cooler in the hotel to fill our water bottles. I enjoyed a simple but nice breakfast and the coffee was lovely and it was included in the price. The hotel is 2 minutes from the beach area and tavernas and a few minutes more to the harbour. We were there only one night but could easily have stayed a few more and would have loved to go out on the owners boat trip. Maybe next time.

All the staff was very friendly, especially Ms Evgenia who did everything to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. Mr Vasilis is an guide for the the day trip to Saris.
